According to a press report, in the Corps Commanders meeting held earlier this month, a few participants of the meeting proposed that military takeover was the only way to steer the country out of the multiple crisis, as the political leadership has failed to protect the life and property of the citizen and masses are not satisfied with the government’s performance but General Kayani together with some others urged restraint and patience and decided to give the civilian government should be given more time to tackle the burning issue. No official press release by ISPR was issued to know what has been actually discussed in the corps commanders meeting.
Every thoughtful Pakistani and student of history knows that after the creation of Pakistan, the civil-military bureaucrats hijacked the state and co-opted the feudal politicians and religious forces to make Pakistan a security state and its Islamic ideology was adopted. It have been the establishment which is in collaboration with feudal lords, tribal chieftains, descendants of Sufi forebears, politicians, judges, lawyers, media owners and businessman have been ruling the country through martial laws and sham democracy.
Since the power structure, organisation of the state and constitution of the country ensured and protect the interest of the establishment, it is not possible to change the status quo. Therefore, democracy in Pakistan is just for the general public consumption.
I believe General Kayani is a thinking general who doesn’t want to do the politician job and knows that the present conditions of the country is not suitable for military rule; rather it will harm the hegemony of the military institution which is not in the national interest of the country.
