Jamaat e Islami (JI) Secretary General Liaqat Baloch has called upon the government to convene a national conference on recent natural calamities in the country with representation from the stake holders of political welfare parties.
Inaugurating an Information and Relief camp for dengue virus set up by the JI and Al-Khidmat Foundation at Wahdat Road on Wednesday, he said that unfortunately, the government would wake up only when some calamity or disaster struck. None of the government institutions took preventive measures before hand, he said adding that had the local governments, NDMA and the Health authorities had arranged spray well in time, dengue virus could have been controlled. He said the government and its institutions were directly responsible for the deaths. Similarly, he said the entire Sindh had been devastated due to rains. Millions of people had been rendered homeless and thousands had been affected by fatal diseases.
It was unfortunate, he said, that the leaders of major political parties were conducting aerial survey of the flooded areas and were content with ceremonial addresses. Some selected people were being given help at the DCO office and the rulers were only interested in photo sessions. Baloch said that the international relief bodies and foreign governments were reluctant to offer help to the government because of its corruption, nepotism and maladministration.
Meanwhile, JI has decided to hold “Karachi Peace Conference” in Islamabad on September 28. The conference will be held at the Al-Falah Conference Hall at which leading political and religious personalities of the country have been invited, he said, adding JI chief Syed Munawar Hasan will preside.
