The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leadership on Friday night resolved to forge a long-term political partnership to counter common political adversaries. Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani hosted a dinner in honour of PML-Q parliamentarians in which the leadership from both coalition partners resolved to meet all political challenges together.
Addressing the event, Gilani said the PPP and PML-Q will work together to overcome the challenges posed by terrorism, energy shortages and floods. He said the PML-Q parliamentarians should consider themselves part of the government. Punjab Governor Latif Khosa, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar, Minister for Finance Hafeez Shaikh, PML-Q President Shujaat Hussain, Pervaiz Elahi, Faisal Saleh Hayat and Mushahid Hussain were also present.
Gilani said the PPP respected the mandate of other parties and was taking along all its allies in three provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Gilani said the government did not want to destabilise any government and was working to strengthen the democratic system. PML-Q attained the second highest number of votes after PPP in the last elections and has roots in the masses, he observed.
Gilani lauded the role of the PML-Q in parliament for restoration of constitution and unanimous approval of constitutional amendments.
