A six-member inter-university delegation of academics from India visited the Punjab University (PU) on Monday. PU Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran welcomed the delegation at the Centre for Undergraduate Studies. PU Director External Linkages Maria I Maldonado arranged the visit in order to promote bilateral academic relations.
Speaking on the occasion, Kamran said mutual cooperation and increased people to people contact would help in understanding each others’ viewpoints better and the PU was ready to extend full cooperation in every field in this regard. He said the role of a VC was like a facilitator and he had done every possible effort in this regard. Kamran added that dialogue, and not the war, was the only way of resolving issues.
Representing the Indian delegation, Damanbir Singh Jaspal said academic cooperation between the two countries must be promoted. He said both countries had a similar culture and problems; therefore cooperation must extend to all spheres of life as people had been suffering due to the lack of cooperation. Jaspal said the region’s progress was dependent upon peace in the territory. Later the delegation visited the Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS) where Centre Director Dr Umbreen Javed and faculty members welcomed them. Umbreen gave a detailed briefing about the ongoing academic and research programmes of the centre.
