Transportation inadequacy

Lahore is a boundless sea of people of middle and lower middle class who leave their homes daily in the morning to reach their place of earning. Their wages are unmistakably insufficient to meet their domestic needs.

It is easy and ample availability of transport that enables them to bring home a pittance. But it has become impossible for them to reach the places of work because of the hostility of transport. The routes in the city used to flourish with many public vans. Now the van routes are yawning for want of public transport. Chaos caused by the dreadful insufficiency of public transport has turned the city roads in a zoo.

It was promised by the government to induct hundreds of buses in the city in lieu of closing the routes of Toyota vans. But it proved a practical joke with the citizens. Van owners and the staff have economically been crushed. Van owners are selling the vans to Bilal Gunj business magnates and themselves are opening khokhas to earn for their children.

The Punjab government should seriously look into the issue and move quickly on projects of public transport.
