Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has disbursed more than Rs88 billion among its beneficiaries across the country in transparent manner. An amount of Rs25 billion has been distributed among the families recommended by the parliamentarians belonging to PPP and more than Rs13 billion has been distributed on the recommendations of the parliamentarians belonging to the party of Mian Nawaz Sharif, an official of BISP stated.
The programme has enrolled over 5.4 million families so far however, the number of beneficiaries is likely to reach seven million people on the completion of the poverty survey. The Poverty Scorecard survey was initiated to enroll deserving families across the country which has been completed in all province but is still under way in FATA, the official said. Chairperson BISP, Farzana Raja, in a meeting held the other day has directed the survey teams to complete the survey as early as possible, while making it clear that any delay or discrepancy in the process would not be tolerated.
The meeting was held to redress the reservations of the members of the parliament from FATA regarding the process of poverty survey. Farzana assured that the survey process in FATA would remain above political affiliations in accordance to the policy of BISP and every possible step will be taken to improve the survey process. The families registered with BISP are getting benefits under its various initiatives including Waseela-e-Haq, Waseela-e-Rozgar, while Weseela-e-Sehat will be launched soon. An amount of Rs300,000 is being given under Waseela-e-Haq to the family selected through transparent balloting system. Besides, every registered family is being covered by life insurance of Rs100,000 and a member from each registered family would be imparted with vocational/technical training under Waseela-e-Rozgar initiative. The programme is serving the people of the country without any discrimination or political bias. The official said BISP has been declared as the most transparent programme in the social sector by various prestigious institutions of the world and it has introduced state of the art technology to serve and facilitate the poor of the country.
