Lok Virsa, the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage and the Information Ministry located at Shakaparian will hold a number of activities to mark the Independence Day.
Talking to Pakistan Today, Lok Virsa’s Executive Director (ED) Khalid Javaid said the day would start with a flag hoisting ceremony at the Lok Virsa building. An exhibition of artisans-at-work would take place, featuring craftspeople in the field of embroidery, papier mache, truck art, shawl weaving, doll making, Zari work and pottery making.
“It aims to provide an opportunity to craftspeople not only to demonstrate their skills but also to sell their products directly to visitors, which will ultimately serve to eliminate the role of middleman”, he said.
Special attractions for children would include play-land and jumping castles.
Pakistan National Museum of Ethnology, popularly called the Heritage Museum, at Garden Avenue and National Monument Museum, adjacent to the Pakistan Monument would also remain open to public from 10 am to 4 pm. Fifty percent rebate on museum entry ticket for adults will be granted on the occasion, so as to ensure maximum participation of visitors in the Independence Day programmes.
