At least five people were killed and five other injured by militants in Bilyameen, a mountainous area along the Pak-Afghan border, in Kurram Agency on Monday morning. The victims belonged to the Shia community. The injured were admitted at Agency Headquarter Hospital Parachinar, where some of them are stated to be in precarious condition. A number of dwellers from Bilyameen village were busy in collecting fire woods in Lower Kurram when militants targeted them with sophisticated weapons.
No group or person has so far claimed the responsibility for killings but officials believe that Taliban are behind the gruesome act. Meanwhile, the latest killings caused spontaneous unrest amongst the Shia population across the volatile agency, as they are main victims of terrorism and violent acts for the last several years. The Shia community across the tribal district, particularly in Lower Kurram, is facing great hardships since 1979 when former Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan.
