DEO jailed for seven years in illegal recruitment case

KARACHI: An accountability court on Saturday awarded seven years imprisonment and fine of Rs48.5 million to a District Education Officer (DEO) of Sindh in a corruption reference.

The court while hearing the corruption reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against DEO Sajjan Mallah, awarded him seven years term of jail after the corruption charges were proved against him.

The NAB had filed a reference against DEO over fake recruitments of teaching and non-teaching staff in the education department of Sindh. The accused has also been disqualified for 10 years to hold any public office.

According to the NAB prosecutor, Mallah had conducted fake recruitment on 140 vacant vacancies in the department.

The NAB had permitted investigation against the officer in 2015.
