PESHAWAR: An accountability court on Wednesday adjourned till August 8 the trial of former federal minister Arbab Alamgir and his wife Asma Arbab in assets beyond means case.
Earlier, the court had granted exemption from appearance to Arbab Alamgir during the last hearing.
An accountability court had indicted the couple again on February 13 after deleting a paragraph about their alleged foreign properties as the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) failed to produce any evidence in that respect.
It is pertinent to mention here that Arbab and Asma were facing charges of accumulating assets beyond their known sources of income in a reference filed by the NAB.
The NAB had alleged that both the accused accumulated assets worth Rs332 million, which were disproportionate to their known sources of income.
The couple claimed innocence and stated that all their assets were acquired through known sources.
As per the reference, the inquiry was authorised on November 4, 2015, that was subsequently converted into an investigation with the approval of NAB executive board on January 12, 2018.
In its probe report, NAB said that it surfaced that the suspects accumulated movable and immovable assets, including two houses in G-11/3 and F-7/2 respectively; 10-kanal land in Islamabad; prize bonds; an imported vehicle and several bank transactions.
Asma Alamgir has also served as an adviser to then prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani.
