LAHORE: Former finance minister Dr Hafeez Pasha on Tuesday said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government is committed to its promise of reviving the economy and this takes precedence over personalities in the government.

He said this in conversation with veteran journalist, senior analyst and Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami on Channel 92’s programme ‘Ho Kya Raha Hai?’.

Referring to former finance minister Asad Umar’s dismissal, he inquired Pasha about Prime Minister Imran Khan’s decision of laying off the most noted player of his team during important International Monetary Fund (IMF) negotiations.

Pasha said that honouring promises is more important than pleasing personalities.

In the same programme, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Malik Ahmad Khan said that everyone had their own role in the party and collective effort kept them afloat.

On this, Arif Nizami remarked that Shehbaz Sharif is losing relevance in the party.

When Malik was asked about Shehbaz’s derogatory remarks about Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari in the past, he said that the PML-N President had apologised for that already.

Expressing his opinion about the recent turn of events, Arif Nizami said that he failed to comprehend why Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan thought Hamza Shehbaz’s arrest is a good omen. “Cases like these have been used against political rivals in the past,” he said, adding that Hamza’s lawyer withdrew the bail application and Hamza presented himself for the arrest voluntarily.
