Dark horse Rain registers first win with eye on semifinals

BRISTOL – Dark horse Rain registered its first win on Friday after washing out the contest between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. At press time on Friday, Rain was on 2 points – after taking one each from Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The win puts Rain fifth on the table, above West Indies, England, India and Bangladesh, all of whom had 2 points as of Friday, on Net Run Rate. South Africa and Afghanistan are yet to open their account at the time of filing of this piece.

Rain has been touted by experts as the team that could be considered the outsider to have the most impact on the ongoing World Cup. The dark horse is fulfilling its billing by already outdoing Sri Lanka and Pakistan in Bristol.

“Already fifth on the table ahead of some big names, Rain is actually in with a chance to make the top four,” said former England captain Michael Atherton, while talking to The Dependent.

“And once Rain is in the semifinals, it could impact the knockout matches as well. Then it’s anyone’s tournament.”

Analysts underline Rain’s danger and believe that it could impact the World Cup during the coming week as well.
