Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif on Thursday called on the nation to unite against all forces acting to undermine and hold the judicial system hostage, and said his party would defend the independence and supremacy of the judiciary at all costs.
In a message released on his behalf by PML-N Secretary Information Marriyum Aurangzeb, Nawaz said that he had directed his party’s parliamentary leadership to meet on Friday and plan a strategy against the “vicious attack” on the judiciary in the form of misconduct references against two senior judges of the superior judiciary, including Supreme Court Justice Qazi Faez Isa, who is known for his honesty and brave decisions.
The ousted premier, who is currently serving a seven-year jail sentence at Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore in a corruption case, said that parliament should expose the “true motive behind the spurious allegations against the honorable judges and to oppose this smear campaign in every possible way”.
Nawaz said that he did not care about what actions might be taken against him for standing up for the supremacy and independence of the judiciary because the crucial nature of circumstances demanded a selfless defence of constitutional institutions. He said that he had firm faith in God he would use all his abilities for this cause come what may.
Nawaz reiterated his resolve to guard the sanctity of the vote and told his followers not to worry about his health but to understand that his cause was greater than his health and any other matter at hand.
