LAHORE: Punjab University (PU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad has vowed to improve the M Phil and Ph.D. programs on which Quality Assurance Agency of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan has expressed its reservation due to the gap in student-teacher ratio.

The vice-chancellor was chairing a meeting of heads of all teaching departments at Al Raazi Hall on Friday.

Addressing the meeting, the Vice Chancellor said that under PU’s own review system, the university did not announce admissions in Spring semester this year to ensure quality education in M Phil and Ph.D. programs. He said that the university administration itself took this decision 3 months ago before the report of HEC, which the university had received just two weeks ago.

Registrar Dr. Muhammad Khalid Khan has said that the Quality Assurance Agency of the HEC had appreciated most of M Phil and Ph.D. programs in the university.

During the meeting, some faculty members pointed out that the data of some departments in the HEC report was not true which should be rectified and sent back to HEC for its review of the report. On the request of faculty members, the Vice Chancellor constituted a committee to prepare correct data of M Phil and Ph.D. programs.
