157 children among 185 suspected HIV Larkana patients

KARACHI: Sindh AIDS Control Program (SACP) has successfully screened more than 4,700 people in Larkana and its adjoining areas, detecting at least 185 cases, including 157 children, of HIV and AIDS.

Sindh AIDS Control Programme Director Dr Sikander Memon, while talking to PPI, said screening of residents of Larkana, Ratodero and its slums areas has been underway for last ten days through screening camps.

He informed that SACP has screened more than 4,700 people; out of them, 185 HIV suspected cases have been reported so far.

He further explained that 157 out of a total of 185 suspected HIV cases are children and these cases will be reconfirmed through lab reports. He said HIV/AIDS screening camps are being organized in high-risk areas of Larkana, Ratodero, Allah Dino Sailro, Thand Buzdar and other villages.

Dr Memon said people are not aware of their health status due to poverty and lack of awareness in the society.

He said screening of people in high-risk areas would be continued across Sindh province and data would be shared with National AIDS Control Program to devise a comprehensive strategy to control the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in the society.
