Senate body calls for JIT to investigate killing of Afzal Kohistani

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights on Monday directed to form a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to discuss the matter of killing of a citizen Muhammad Afzal Kohistani in district Abbottabad.

The committee meeting chaired by Dr Jehanzeb Jamaldini directed to take the case into an anti-terrorist court to resolve it at earliest.

The committee also directed to investigate the matter completely with replacement of SHO and appointment of neutral members in JIT.

The committee directed to provide full protection to other members of family to avoid from any threat.

The committee was informed that before this killing, their three brothers were killed by the same tribe as there was an old family enmity which led to killings of many people.

The committee was further informed that the police was providing full protection to the members of family and they also carried out postmortem of the deceased.

The committee chairman asked to provide full protection to Human Rights Activist Farzana Bari, who was pursuing the earlier killing of his brother as she was facing threats from tribe.

The chairman said that it is unfortunate that police have limited information about this case.

The committee also discussed the matter of reason for relaxation from requirement to have at least one female board member.

The committee was informed that there is no restriction for only one female as directorship as they can have it more than one.

The chairman directed to submit an annual progress report as there should not be any gender gap.

He said that there should be many steps for women empowerment in male-dominated society.
