Hafeezur Rehman elected LHCBA president

LAHORE: Hafeezur Rehman Chaudhry of the Independent Group, commonly known as late Asma Jahangir’s group, was elected as the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) president for the year 2019-20 on Saturday.

Rehman bagged a total of 3,871 votes against rival Hamid Khan-led Professional Group’s Khadim Hussain Qaiser who managed to secure only 2,391 votes. Sajid Bashir, also contesting for the coveted slot of LHCBA president, trailed behind with 1,225 votes.

Among other successful candidates were Kabeer Ahmed Chaudhry, who was elected as the vice president after receiving 2,300 votes, Secretary Fiaz Ahmed Ranjha (5,946 votes) and Finance Secretary Ansar Jameel Gujjar (5,370 votes).

Celebrations erupted among the supporters of the winning candidates soon after the announcement of the results. Sweets were also distributed.
