While the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has provided the young talent of the country an opportunity to earn the limelight, it has also provided other cricketers with the chance to share the dressing room with legends of the game from around the world and learn from them.

This year, players of Lahore Qalandars will have the opportunity to share the dressing room with one of the greatest names of modern day cricket, AB de Villiers. Pakistan’s only double centurion in ODIs Fakhar Zaman considered himself as “fortunate” to be sharing the dressing room with him.

“AB de Villiers is also my favourite player, I was watching his batting at nets to learn from him. I will try to learn maximum from him during the next one month. I have some questions in my mind to improve my batting, so I will surely ask him about that too,” he said in an interview with local media while sharing his feelings on sharing the dressing room with the South African cricketer.

“I consider myself fortunate that I’m sharing the dressing room with a legend like AB de Villiers,” he said.

The opening batsman said that PSL fast tracked him into Pakistan team as he came into limelight only because of the league where his performances were noticed by selectors.

“I had played before but I came into limelight through PSL,” he said when asked about how the Pakistan Super League has helped him.

“I had played before too but my good innings in PSL earned me a call from selectors for Pakistan team. It is also helping our local talent who hasn’t played much international cricket to earn contracts in different leagues,” he said.

Replying to a question, the hero of Pakistan’s Champions Trophy win said that this time Qalandars have a very good combination and players are positive and eager to do well in the tournament.

He also said that having players like Hafeez, de Villiers and Haris Sohail will overcome what Qalandars lacked in past, especially in the batting department.

“Gone is gone, this time we will try our best to make sure that Lahore becomes champions of the PSL. We have overcome what we lacked in past so this time results will be better and different,” he said.

The opening batsman added that after not so good tour of South Africa, he wants to do something good and make Lahore Qalandars win the tournament.

“I want to be the best batsman of PSL. Everyone else also wants to be the best but I also want to make my team victorious and that is more important,” Fakhar stated.

He also lauded PSL for helping Pakistani players learn work attitude from top players of the world.
