–Imprisoned former PM claims he’s in good health, quotes Ghalib

–Says halting CPEC would bring ‘disastrous results’

LAHORE: Incarcerated former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said that “innocent blood should not be shed on incomplete information” and demanded a transparent investigation into the Sahiwal tragedy.

He was referring to the extrajudicial murders of three members of a family by the Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel during an ‘encounter’ last week.

These events unfolded as Nawaz met his family members and different prominent leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Thursday at Kot Lakhpat Jail.

Though media reports earlier claimed otherwise, Nawaz appeared to be in high spirits and satisfied with his health. Moreover, he quoted the Urdu poet Ghalib when inquired of his health:  “Un Kay Dekhay Se Jo Aa Jati Hai Mun Pe Ronaq, Wo Samjhtay Hain Bemar Ka Haal Acha Hai”.

Further, he said that he doesn’t monitor the list of visitors that come to see him on Thursdays, the day set for his social engagements. However, he claimed he was quite happy to see whoever wanted to come to meet him.

Speaking of national affairs, Nawaz expressed his concerns over the current economic condition of the state.

Speaking on the landmark China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Nawaz claimed that his government “worked diligently for CPEC so that the country could reap its fruit, if the incumbent government decides to halt it then it will bring disastrous results”.

Further, he demanded transparent investigations and expressed regret over the loss of innocent lives in the tragic Sahiwal incident. He also demanded that the government should open Multan motorway keeping in view difficulties facing the people.
