–PM Imran, foreign minister condole lawmaker’s death

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPA Mazhar Abbas passed away at the age of 65 on Wednesday.

A Rescue 1122 team had rushed him to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) on Tuesday after his health had deteriorated in the Punjab Assembly.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of the lawmaker.

In his condolence message, the premier prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and that the bereaved family may bear the loss with fortitude.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi also condoled the sad demise.

“We began as political adversaries in 1988 only to end up as allies in 2018. He was as good an ally as he was an adversary,” he said in a tweet.

Born on February 1, 1953, in Multan, Mazhar was elected as an MPA of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) from PP-201 constituency of Multan in 2013.

He had defeated Makhdoom Mureed Hussain Qureshi of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) by receiving 35,233 votes.

Mazhar was re-elected to the Punjab Assembly after his victory from Multan’s PP-218 constituency as a PTI candidate in the 2018 general elections.
