Hockey World Cup begins in India today

BHUBANESWAR: Pakistan’s search for its lost glory will resume as the 14th International Hockey World Cup will kick off in Bhubaneshwar, India today.

The mega event will feature 16 teams including Argentina, Australia, England, Germany, Ireland, Malaysia, Netherlands, Spain, New Zealand, Pakistan and host nation India. The event will continue till December 16.

Participating teams have been divided into four groups. Group A comprises of Argentina, France, Spain and New Zealand whereas Australia, England, Ireland and China are part of Pool B. Hosts India, Belgium, Canada and South Africa make up Group C. Group D is made up of Pakistan, Germany, Netherlands and Malaysia.

Hockey cup will officially start with India taking on South Africa and Canada playing against Belgium on maiden day.

Per contra, Pakistan team will start their journey on December 1st against Germany. Green shirts have lifted the trophy four-time in the past in 1971, 1978,1978 and 1994.

Pakistan has featured in every Hockey world cup except 2014 edition of the tournament.
