ISLAMABAD – Following the draft for the fourth season of the Pakistan Super League on Tuesday, hundreds of thousands of cricket fans took to social media express grief at the loss of legendary South African batsman AB De Villiers’ franchise T20 career.

“My world has been turned upside down all of a sudden. How could this happen? Nobody was ready for this,” wrote a cricket fan on their Facebook page.

“My worst fears have been realized. I had a feeling this would happen, but it’s still a tragedy that has struck at the most inopportune time,” tweeted a cricket influencer.

The cricket world has understandably expressed shock, disbelief and condolences. These have been led by former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum.

“Anything that can go wrong will go wrong,” said McCullum in reference to Murphy’s Law and De Villiers.

Meanwhile West Indian star Chris Gayle quoted Harvey Dent from The Dark Knight and said, “You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”

However, AB De Villiers’, who will play for the Lahore Qalandars in PSL 4, maintained a note of positivity, pointing out that Umar Akmal in no longer a part of Qalandars.
