RAWALPINDI: Intermittent rain for the last two days decreased the threat of smog in the city, said Dr Waqar Ahmed, an official of the District Health Authority, on Wednesday.

Talking to the media, he said that if the rain continues in the coming days, it will further decrease the smog in December.

Dr Waqar said that burning of garbage on roads, factories emitting smoke and smoky vehicle were the main causes of smog.

He urged the people to adopt precautionary measures during the smog and cover their nose and mouth, wear glasses and helmet while travelling, especially on motorcycles, for protection against eye infections, itchy skin, headache and other chest diseases.

He advised the citizens not to go outside unnecessarily and wash their eyes with fresh water and gargle after returning home.

He said that the smog might affect the human health during the start of winter season due to the change of climate and environmental pollution.

He said that promotion of tree plantation was vital for avoiding smog and checking environmental pollution.
