ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet is likely to take up the matter of security of tenure for civil servants in Thursday’s meeting.

Sources told Pakistan Today that the federal cabinet will take up the 12-point-agenda, including the security of tenure for civil servants. This is a burning issue nowadays as officers are transferred from their posts regularly.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, in its previous tenure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), had introduced the security of tenure for officers in the province. Because of this move, officers retained their posts for a maximum of three years despite budding pressure from the political elite of different political parties. Sources also said that the incumbent PTI government would introduce the same policy now that it is in the centre and officers would not be transferred except in exceptional circumstances.

Besides this, the advisor to prime minister on establishment division will brief about the 100-day agenda of the government and the commerce division will also seek permission for allowing transit of spare parts of Toyota vehicles from Karachi to Kabul. The information technology ministry will seek approval for the revised budget of its attached department, National Telecommunication, and will also take the cabinet onboard for the centralised procurement of ICT infrastructure to ensure r-readiness of the federal government for implementation of the e-government programme.

In addition to this, the cabinet is likely to grant approval for the ratification of the agreement on the transfer of convicts, signed between Pakistan and Azerbaijan. Approval for the renewal of Aerial Work Licence Class-II (domestic and international) of VIP flights of Punjab government would also be granted for a period of one year. The federal cabinet is also likely to approve the signing of the memorandum of understandings (MoU) with Afghanistan and Rwanda on matters pertaining to disaster and health.

The federal cabinet meeting will also take up the agenda of giving an additional charge of managing director of the Pakistan Tourism Development Cooperation and the ratification of the decisions taken by the ECC in the last meeting.
