–Punjab CM says premier will soon announce measures for formation of South Punjab province
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar and Punjab Assembly Speaker Pervaiz Elahi were summoned by Prime Minister Imran Khan to Islamabad on Monday following the leak of a video that went viral last week.
In the video, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader and Federal Minister for Housing Tariq Cheema could be heard asking Jahangir Tareen to “control” the Punjab governor.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jahangir Tareen could also be heard questioning Buzdar’s authority as the chief minister of the province and commenting on the differences between PTI and PML-Q.
Punjab Minister for Mines and Minerals Hafiz Ammar Yasir and Pervaiz Elahi could also seen in the video.
“Sir, control Sarwar! He will not let your chief minister continue,” the video shows Cheema asking Tareen.
According to reports, the premier is expected to hold meetings with each individual separately to resolve differences between PML-Q leaders and Sarwar.
Furthermore, the meetings will iron out strategies to maintain balance of power in the Punjab government as well as develop plans for Senate elections.
SOUTH PUNJAB:
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Uman Buzdar said that PM Khan would soon announce measures for the formation of South Punjab province.
Speaking to a private media outlet, he said that the premier would soon form a committee comprising allies and members of the opposition to oversee matters pertaining to the formation of South Punjab.
The chief minister added that PM Khan, during his election campaign, had promised the formation of the new province and was taking necessary measures in this regard.
“Before the 100 days of the government end, he [prime minister] will announce some important measures for the formation of the South Punjab province,” he said and added that the provincial cabinet would meet in south Punjab once a month, while development projects for the region would also be launched.
