PIA officials’ shady foreign postings cost billions to national exchequer

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Airline (PIA) had to bear a loss of Rs2.2 billion due to the out of turn, irregular and more than one foreign postings of officials, the PIA’s audit report disclosed regarding the officials’ foreign postings during 2008 to 2017.

It was pointed out that the last two governments made out of turn posting of some 33 blue-eyed officials in PIA which caused a loss of up to Rs646 million to the national exchequer.

Documents show that Anila Omair was posted in Houstan, Ayesha Saad, Haidar Ali Khan, Mumtaz Akhtar, Faiz Muhammad Korejo, Shahid Afzal Khan, Rashid Ullah Khan and Naseer Ahmed Alvi in New York, Jaffar Nadeem in Sydney, Ishtiaq Ahmed Lone, Saadat Usman, M Ali Khandwala, Muhammad Farooq, Ehsan Ullah Khan, Saeed Ahmed and Shabaz-ud-Din in Manchester, Sadia Naz , Ghulam Rauf, Sajidullah Khan and Muhammad Bashir in Birmingham, Muhammad Masih, Rehan Ahmed, M Iqbal Ghanchi, Umar Hayat Khan, Abid Hussain and Usman Ghani Rao in Toronto, Waseem Ahmed, Inam-ur-Bari, Sajidullah Khan, Siraj Anwar Kazi and Imran Ahmed Khan in London and Altaf H Daudpota in Saudi Arabia.

Besides this, audit report revealed that 37 officials of PIA after going to foreign posting never joined back to PIA head office which cost the national ketty Rs 1.6 billion, the officials are Umer Malik Manchester, Istiaq Rauf Manchester, Ardhad Ali Chaudary London, Istihaq ahmed birmindhum, Rehan Izzat ali New york, Haidar Zaidi London, Farooq Ahmed Manchester, Azhar saleem Toronto, Anis ahmed Sadiique New york, Shamsul Hassan New York, Ijaz A chaudary London, Muhammad Baqir London, Abdul Hammed Manchester, Imran Arshaf Hoston, Akhlaque hamed macnhester, Muhammad Nazir New York, Aliudin New york, Kartar Talreja New York, Imtaiz Hussain London, S ali Shahid New york, Sultan Mehmood birminghum, Muizzudin Toronto, Tariq Yasin New york, Aqil Bin sharif Toronto, Manzoor Qamar Saudi Arabia, Mansoor ahmed mela London, Iqbal bashir London, Mazhar lai khan New York, Amna Nazir Toronto, Naheed A memon Toronto, Mehzar rizvi Manchester, Inam ali Kehar New Yorks, Asim Baber Birmingham, M Raza rizvi New york, Syed Aijaz Ali New York, sharafat Mohiuddin New York and Taghlaque Azam New york.

Moreover, the five officials of PIA including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Senator Mushahidullah Khan’s brothers got foreign postings against the prevailing rules.

Documents show that five officials of PIA posted at foreign stations in an irregular manner. Officials include Flight Engineer Iqbal Bashir, Pilot Rehman Ahmed, Marketing Officer Shahid Afzal Khan, Cargo (Sales) DGM Rashid Ullah Khan and Assistant Senior Manager Sajidullah Khan.

Cargo (Sales) DGM Rashid Ullah Khan, the brother of Mushahidullah Khan posted as country manager in New York from 27/03/2014 to 8/8/2016 and Sajidullah Khan got a four-time foreign posting against the prevailing rules.

Firstly, he was posted assistant senior manager in New York from February 1995 to March 1997, then from March 1997 to December 1999 he remained appointed at DCA as senior manager meanwhile he served in BHX from August 2006 to September 2009 and currently serving in London since September 2015.

Similarly, as many as 13 officials of PIA posted at foreign stations more than one time. The officials are Ali Abbas Shah, Ahmed Barakzai, Fahim Shakoor, Imran Ahmed Khan, Zulfiqar Bijrani, Yahya Karim Sethi, Arshad Mehmood, Khan Muhammad Ansari, Shahbaz Ahmed, Arif Memon, Tariq Shafiq, Younus Mustaqeem and Muhammad Saeed Khan.
