LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) candidate for the NA-131 by-poll, Humayun Akhtar Khan, has alleged that his opponent of rival Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Khawaja Saad Rafique, is attempting to “rig the election”.

“Right now I, along with my team, am trying my best to make sure that this man does not steal the election,” he said while speaking to Pakistan Today.

“It is the last day before the election and we are making an effort to make sure there is no rigging, especially since we have been getting untoward reports regarding the activities of the PML-N camp,” he went on to say.

“This man, in particular, is notorious for his actions, but we will not let him do anything of the sort.”

Commenting on the fact that it was PTI that was in government in Punjab, Akhtar said that Saad Rafique, until now, had been unsuccessful in his “attempts” because he did not have the government apparatus backing him.

Meanwhile, the PTI candidate expressed confidence in his chances in the by-election. “Other than these attempts, I think I will win the election,” he said.

When asked whether the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), which had received a few thousand votes in July in NA-131, endorsing Khawaja Saad Rafique would have any effects on the close contest, Humayun Akhtar said that the voters of the PPP would never vote for the League.

“These are purely ideological voters and will never vote for Saad Rafique. In fact, I am confident that I will get those votes as well no matter what the party might say,” he added.
