ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Friday while chairing a meeting to discuss the problems faced by overseas Pakistanis said that his government would be announcing a special package of incentives to encourage overseas Pakistanis to send remittances through banking channels.
The PM was briefed by Overseas Pakistanis Ministry Special Assistant Zulfi Bukhari.
PM Imran said that this would be done by removing all hindrances and procedural issues.
“Problems being faced by the overseas Pakistanis should be resolved immediately”, he directed while adding that overseas Pakistanis are the asset of the country.
Earlier, in a series of tweets, the PM stated, “Inshallah by removing these hindrances, we will be able to increase remittance flows from $20 billion to at least $30 billion and perhaps even $40 billion through banking channels.”
Khan added that the government was also moving to remove hassles overseas Pakistanis confront at immigration when they come to Pakistan.
Reassuring his support to country nationals living abroad, he underlined: “Our government is also going to ensure protection for the overseas Pakistanis’ properties and land especially from land mafias.”
“Our missions abroad have also been directed to look after and deal effectively with the concerns of our overseas Pakistanis,” he added.
Moreover, while talking to a delegation of senators belonging to Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), the PM reiterated the government’s resolve to complete the process for merger of with KP.
Matters relating to the overall situation of tribal areas, FATA merger and administrative affairs came under discussion during the meeting.
He said the government is also striving to implement local government system in the tribal districts.
The PM assured the delegation that tribal areas will be provided all-out facilities like other parts of the country.
He said the tribal people have faced many difficulties and problems and that officers should set their direction and play their due role in solving such problems.
PM Khan assured them to hold local body elections in the area as soon as possible.
The PM said tribal people have right on the minerals and these should be spent on the construction and development of the area. He added that the government is also striving to establish local government system in FATA.
He vowed to spend the allocated 100 billion rupees on all FATA districts.
The PM assured the FATA legislators that their strength in the parliament will remain unchanged in the new system.PM Imran urged the parliamentarians to launch the election campaign with full momentum for upcoming by-polls in the tribal areas.
Earlier on October 2, legislators from FATA had also met with the PM and discuss FATA reforms.
