Ministry of Climate Change environmentalists have criticised the government’s plans to shut down brick kilns between in Islamabad and Punjab between October 20 and December 31, arguing that this is an ineffective method to combat winter smog, a local media outlet reported on Sunday.
The difficulty in ensuring they remain shut, compensating labour and brick kiln owners for losses are among the reasons cited by the environmentalists.
Smoke produced by brick kilns has been identified among the causes of smog in Punjab and Islamabad between October and December.
