ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) believed in the transfer of powers to the grassroots level, “which was only possible by strengthening the local government system.”
“Empowered people in a local government system can be the best form of the government,” the premier said while chairing a meeting regarding the local government system in the federal capital.
PM Khan said that people should be allowed to take decisions on their own and a revised local government system would be made functional based on the pattern implemented in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
“People will be strengthened by empowering the local bodies,” the prime minister said.
Earlier this month, PM Khan had constituted a committee to recommend a proposal for the new local government structure that would be scrutinised and presented before the provincial assemblies to initiate the required legislation process within a month.
