ISLAMABAD – Pakistan will be the first country to host a Formula Fifty-Five (also Formula 55 or F55) Helicopter Grand Prix as the nation is set to introduce the new sport to the globe.
While the exact date for the inauguration is yet to be announced, the new sport is already being billed as the most cost effective, environment friendly, resource saving racing sport in the world.
Formula 55, will be the highest class of multi-seater helicopter racing sanctioned by the newly formed International Federation of Helicopter Racing (IFHR) and is owned by the Formula 55 Group in Pakistan.
The IFHR Formula 55 World Championship will be one of the premier forms of racing around the skies since the concept’s inauguration. The “formula” in the name refers to the set of rules to which all participants’ helicopters must conform.
A Formula Fifty-Five season will consist of a series of races, known as Grands Prix (French for “grand prizes” or “great prizes”), which will be held worldwide on purpose-built sky circuits and public funds.
The new government has also announced a Helicopter Racing Board (HRB) for the progress of the sport that Pakistan can proudly claim to have pioneered in the years to come.
