Transgender person shot dead in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: A transgender person was killed when unidentified persons opened fire on her near the Bara Gate on Thursday.

According to the police, the transgender person identified as Nasir alias Nazo was shot dead at her residence Thursday morning while her body was found in a sack later in the evening and bore torture marks.

Later, two suspects were arrested in connection to the incident and an FIR was also registered. One of the arrested persons included the owner of Nazo’s residence.

Trans Action Pakistan, an organisation working for the rights of transgender persons, about the incident stated that this was the 62nd killing of a transgender person in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since 2015.

Moreover, the post stated that 478 cases of violence were recorded in 2018 alone.

Despite, the National Commission for Human Rights Pakistan taking notice of the increasing violence against transgenders, incidents of violence against transgender persons continue to rise in the city.
