Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who is imprisoned in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail after being convicted in an illegal assets reference, on Wednesday said that he gets to meet his daughter Maryam Nawaz once a week, during visitation hours on Thursday.
Sharif was talking to journalists after appearing before an accountability court for the hearing of the two remaining corruption references against him and his family.
A journalist asked Nawaz if he was allowed to pray in the jail mosque.
“No, I don’t have permission to go to the mosque, I say my prayers in the jail cell,” said the former PM.
According to Nawaz Sharif, he only sees Maryam during visitation hours on Thursday.
In July, Nawaz, daughter Maryam and son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar were sentenced by an accountability court in the Avenfield properties corruption reference. The court handed an 11-year sentence to Nawaz and 8 years to Maryam, which they are serving at the Adiala Jail.
