LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jahangir Tareen on Sunday stated that his party will bring a change in governance by strengthening institutions and bringing transparency.

He said this while addressing a joint press conference with Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Pervaiz Elahi, to discuss the formation of government in Punjab with the party’s allies.

Jahangir Tareen who wooed in various independents and other political parties to support PTI said, “We will strengthen institutions, [unlike the Sharifs] who weakened the country’s institutions during their rule,” adding, that “we will tell the public of our successes as well as our mistakes. We will [hide nothing].”

He further appreciated Elahi and his party’s efforts to support PTI and promised to transform Punjab and “bring a system that was never witnessed by the nation before”.

The veteran leader shared that the party has been in talks with some members of the rival Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), who he claimed have “agreed to vote for PTI’s candidates”.

The PML-Q leader also added that his party’s “first priority is to make laws in the interests of the provinces and the country”.

He also added that the nominations for the speaker, deputy speaker and chief minister post have been discussed by his party.

Earlier, the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) had announced to support Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the National Assembly and be a part of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly.

PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi made the announcement after meeting GDA chief Pir Pagara Sibghatullah Shah Rashidi at the Kingri House in Karachi. Jahangir Tareen was also present along with local party leaders.

Qureshi said that both parties would be a part of the opposition in Sindh along with the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), and the joint opposition would decide the future course of action in the Sindh Assembly.

He strongly criticised Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for participating in the opposition parties’ protest against alleged rigging, saying that they had formed the Sindh government since the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, and was protesting despite winning more seats than previous elections.

Pir Pagara announced to support Imran Khan for the upcoming elections of the prime minister, saying he should step forward for the betterment of the country and they would support him unconditionally in all circumstances.

The spiritual leader of the Hur Movement said that several GDA leaders were made to lose the elections through conspiracies and they would peacefully protest against it.
