ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday maintained the order of not handing over a United States (US) national of Pakistan origin, summoning the inquiry officer on the matter for next hearing.
In 2016, the Pakistani government had arrested and jailed Talha Haroon after he was charged with terrorism by the US government. The terror charges were rejected by Haroon’s family members. The decision to hand over Haroon to the US authorities was challenged in the high court.
A single bench of the IHC led by Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui took up the case for hearing. Advocate Idrees Ashraf on behalf of the petitioner and prayed the court to annul the probe initiated by an inquiry officer appointed by Islamabad chief commissioner.
The court has directed former additional deputy commissioner Abdul Sattar Essani who was appointed as an inquiry officer during the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government to appear on August 29. The court, after summoning the inquiry officer for next hearing, adjourned the hearing of the case till 29th.
