SHC orders NAB to submit reply in KPT illegal appointments case

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday ordered National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to submit a comprehensive reply on the next hearing in a case pertaining to illegal appointments during the stint of former federal minister for Port and Shipping and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Babar Ghori.

The bail plea of former General Manager Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Akhtar Farooqi was heard by a two-member bench of SHC in connection with this case.

NAB authorities sought time to submit a comprehensive reply. Upon which the court while directing NAB officials to submit reply on next hearing adjourned the case till August 20

According to the NAB, Rauf Akhtar Farooqi and other accused have been nominated in a reference pertaining to thousands of illegal appointments in KPT.

The MQM leader could not be arrested as he was abroad, while the matter has been referred to Islamabad for filing a reference against the accused persons, they said.

The NAB officials also said Farooqi was appointed on the recommendation of Babar Ghori. They said the national graft-buster have pieces of evidence regarding illegal appointments and bribery against the accused.

The SHC extended bail of Farooqi till next hearing.
