LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif called an important meeting in Lahore on Monday.

The party leaders met to discuss general elections 2018 and to work out a strategy for forming the government in Punjab, sources reported.

Later, speaking to media representatives, PML-N leader Malik Ahmed Khan said that the party president would take the decision about opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly.

He said that the PML-N would play the role of a strong opposition in the province, adding that it would not indulge in politics of lockdowns and conspiracies as such activities harmed the country.

Earlier, PML-N issued a statement claiming it has the required number of candidates to form the government in Punjab.

“We have won 130 MPA seats in Punjab and need additional 18 MPA-elects. With the support of 6 elected MPAs from Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and 13 independent candidates, we will have the numbers to form the government,” claimed Rana Sanaullah.

On the other hand, PTI also claims to have the required number of candidates. PTI leader Jahangir Tareen said that the party had the support of 7 MPAs of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and 18 independent candidates.
