Bollywood film, Padmaavat was undoubtedly a magnum opus in all aspects as it managed to not only stir up a controversy, it also was a box-office success and earned the lead actors, including Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor applause from all around.
However, Aishwarya Rai, in a recent interview revealed that director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first choice for Rani Padmini was Aishwarya.
“He didn’t get the Bajirao for me. He wanted me to do Padmaavat, but could not get the Khilji for me, at the casting time. So, that’s how it didn’t happen,” she said.
Aishwarya further went on to say, “So, at the end of the day, you need to see the casting. If the casting is not happening, then sometimes, it doesn’t come together. The intention is always there to work together, but it didn’t happen. We both loved working with each other, so let’s see, whenever it is meant to be.”
According to reports, Bhansali initially wanted to make Bajirao Mastani with Aishwarya and Salman Khan but their ugly breakup put the project on hold. The film then finally happened with Deepika and Ranveer.
Aishwarya has previously worked with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas, both of which were blockbusters.
