RAWALPINDI: Members of the transgender community have demanded appropriate representation of their community in the provincial assemblies, Senate and National Assembly via reserved seats.

Wajud Welfare Organisation (WWO) Chief Executive Bubbli Malik said, “No major political party recognises us or gives us a ticket on general seats.”

“The government should give us the power to be present in the assemblies, to stand in the public spotlight and demonstrate the legitimacy, value and dignity of our lives,” Malik added.

Senator Sitara Ayaz said, “The transgender community should start their struggle from today to get this right and the Awami National Party believes in gender equality and we will support them.”
