LAHORE: As the elections draw nearer, the race in Lahore’s NA-127 constituency is between Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Ali Pervaiz Malik and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Jamshed Iqbal Cheema.

It has been reported that the total headcount of registered voters here is 610,731, of which 30 per cent are female.

Moreover, the problems caused by the infrastructure project to the residents remain present year-after-year. It had been reported that despite the PML-N government claiming to make things better for the residents, they have not addressed the basic concerns of open trash dumping, undeveloped roads, and the shortage of water.

The constituency NA-127 is a merger of the previously named NA-122, 123 and 124 in Lahore. For the July polls, NA-127 covers parts of Shalimar Garden, UET, Singhpura, Kot Khawaja Saeed, Garhi Shahu, Baghbanpura, Gujjarpura, Mughalpura and Railway Colony.

This will be Malik’s first time in the political arena. His name was fielded after Maryam Nawaz Sharif was forced to withdraw from the race of NA-127 post an accountability court’s verdict.
