KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday said that the development of Karachi is vital for the country’s progress.
The PTI leader is currently in Karachi for a two-day visit as part of an election drive.
“Pakistan cannot progress if its biggest city Karachi isn’t managed well,” said Khan while addressing a business community in the city.
Imran Khan promised that if his party is elected into power, an empowered local government system will be introduced in the city and resolve the city’s water problems by building desalination plants.
Khan further said, “A country progresses with institutions but our rulers destroyed the country.”
“The nation is in debt like it has never been before.. the rupee is sliding. People want change. People of Sindh are ready for change,” he said.
“Pakistan is lagging behind in the world, even in the subcontinent which is one of the poorest regions in the world and even Bangladesh is ahead of us,” he added.
Criticising former Punjab chief minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif’s previous administration, the PTI chairman said, ” The rain in Lahore has exposed the claims of progress and the Paris that Lahore was supposed to have turned into is a lie.”
Khan claimed that the PTI would win enough seats to form a federal government and cautioned his candidates to never consider underestimate their opponents.
The PTI chairman also said that police in Karachi had been politicised.
The PTI chief is expected to detail the party’s plan for a first-ever national housing scheme for the general public.
