Muhammad Saleem assumes charge of PEMRA chairman

ISLAMABAD: Muhammad Saleem on Friday assumed the charge for the post of Pakistan Electronic and Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) chairman in pursuance of a notification issued by the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting, National History and Literary Heritage.

According to a press release issued here, Muhammad Saleem, while talking to PEMRA officials pledged to evolve PEMRA as a vibrant and effective regulator.

He further expressed his conviction in freedom of expression and speech as enshrined in the Article 19 of the Constitution and said consultative approach would be adopted with all stakeholders to overcome impending challenges and regulatory issues amicably, without comprising on the writ of the authority.

The newly appointed chairman also said that PEMRA should not be perceived as a martinet, imposing arbitrary sanctions on media.

Prior to his assignment, Muhammad Saleem was serving as the principal information officer in the Ministry of Information
