–Six killed, over 80 injured in rain-related incidents

 

ISLAMABAD: Pre-monsoon season continues in different parts of the country and monsoon will begin from the first of next month.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), parts of southern Punjab and Sindh received light rain on Wednesday.

Rain is expected in Lahore and Sahiwal on Thursday and in Islamabad on Friday. The Met Office said normal rain is expected during monsoon this year.

SIX KILLED, OVER 80 INJURED:

At least six persons died and over 80 others injured in rain-related incidents in Punjab and Sindh on Tuesday and Wednesday night.

According to details, four people including two women and a minor kid died and 60 others wounded in Larkana in separate incidents as rain and dust storm hit the city. The injured people were taken to Chandka Medical Hospital and other facilities. However, treatment was delayed due to shortage of staff.

Meanwhile, a passenger coach skidded off the road due to rain near Ranipur area of Khairpur, injuring at least 25 people.

According to Motorway Police, the passenger coach was going to Karachi from Rahim Yar Khan. The main thoroughfares submerged in rainwater that causing trouble for motorists and pedestrians.

Two people were killed and five other wounded when roofs of two houses collapsed due to heavy rain in Lahore.

At least 26 traffic accidents were also reported in the city due to rain in which 14 people were injured.

Rain also caused power outage in different areas of Lahore. More than feeders were tripped due to heavy downpour plunging the city into darkness.

However, Lahore Electricity Supply Company (LESCO) administration has restored the power supply in some areas while several localities in the city are still without electricity.
