PED directs addressing graduate teachers with prefix ‘honourable’

LAHORE: Punjab Education Department on Friday issued a notification directing that all graduate honourable teachers and above should officially be addressed with the prefix “honourable” while communicating in letters of appreciation and promotion orders.

“Article 25-A of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan states that ‘the state shall provide to all children of the age of five to sixteen years in such manner as may be determined by law’. Sustainable Development Goal – 4 (SDG-4) focuses on ‘ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all,” read the notification and added that it was a fact that honourable teachers had a central role in the implementation of Article 25-A and SDG-4.

“And so, the eminence and eradication require motivation and respect of teachers,” stated the notification.

It merits mention that the notification has been issued while the portfolio of Education minister is with Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Dr Hasan Askari Rizvi.
