SWAT: Caretaker Prime Minister Justice (r) Nasirul Mulk on Sunday reiterated that holding general elections as scheduled is the top priority of the interim government.
Talking to the delegation of Swat Press Club at his residency Gulkada, the caretaker prime minister assured that the elections will be held on July 25. He said that the caretaker government would support the Election commission of Pakistan (ECP) to help conduct free and fair general election across the country.
Justice Mulk expressed resolve that he will utilise his powers as per the country’s constitution to serve the masses during a two-month period of his stint as the interim premier.
The caretaker premier said that the peace-loving people of Swat had borne many difficulties in past and also rendered countless sacrifices for peace. He lauded the role of local journalists in the war against terrorism.
The local journalists shared with the caretaker prime minister the problems of the area, including the dilapidated condition of GT Road of Swat and the long hours of load shedding.
He said being a resident of the area he is well aware of the problems facing the region and will try to resolve them.
The caretaker PM reached Swat earlier in the day, making it his first visit to Swat since assuming the post. He also paid a visit to his father’s grave and offered Fateha. Later, he met the notables and elders of the valley at his residence.
Earlier, on his arrival at Circuit House, the caretaker prime minister was received by Commissioner Malakand Zaheer ur Islam, Deputy Inspector General of Police Akhtar Hayat Khan and other notables of the area.
According to a report published in a local media outlet, Nasirul Mulk will spend the weekend in his hometown of Swat. Mulk decided to visit Swat to meet the people in the area and to be briefed about the ongoing problems there. Moreover, he is likely to hold the consultations with his close aides in Swat to finalise the caretaker cabinet away from the media spotlight.
Earlier on Friday, Mulk had indicated that he would go for a small-sized cabinet and said that fair elections will be held. Prior to that, Mulk assumed oath as seventh caretaker PM in an official ceremony held at the Presidency, a day after the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government completed its five-year constitutional term.
After taking charge, Mulk issued the first official order to reshuffle bureaucracy, including transferring Secretary to PM Fawad Hasan Fawad and having him posted as director general Civil Services Academy in Lahore. Secretary Cabinet Division Mirza Suhail Aamir was appointed the secretary to PM to replace Fawad.
