FAISALABAD: Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) on Thursday sealed five illegal housing colonies, besides removing illegal construction and sale offices.

A spokesperson for the FDA said that the illegal residential schemes included Azafi Abadi Chak No 263, Hidayat Town, Azafi Abadi Dijkot, Gulshan-e-Habib and new Dijkot City.

He said that formal letters had also been dispatched to the Water and Sanitation Agency managing director, Faisalabad Electric Supply Company planning and designing manager and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited general manager to stop providing any facilities in these illegal housing colonies till the developers get approval from the FDA.

He maintained that under the Punjab Local Government Ordinance 2001 and Punjab Development of Cities Act 1976, all the housing scheme developers were bound to seek prior permission from the FDA before developing any residential scheme. However, he pointed out that these housing colonies were developed without fulfilling legal requirements.

He said a letter had been written to district collector to not register the sale and purchase of any plot in these colonies. The FDA also directed the developers to complete all legal requirements before selling any plot in the said housing schemes, he added.

The spokesperson warned strict action against the developers if they failed to fulfil the required criteria
