LAHORE: Principal Secretary to Prime Minister, Fawad Hassan Fawad, on Friday, did not appear before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore to record his statement in the Ashiana Housing Scheme scam case.

As per the details, the bureaucrat was served seven summons to appear before the anti-graft watchdog, however, he didn’t appear even once.

“Inquiry has revealed that you are in possession of information and evidence regarding the cancellation of contract in respect to the Ashiana-e-Iqbal Project launched by PLDC”, said a notice issued by NAB to Fawad earlier.

NAB has now summoned Fawad on June 1 following his failure to turn up on Friday and reply to its queries in connection with the probe.

It is pertinent to note that NAB has launched an inquiry into the alleged financial irregularities in the awarding of the Ashiana-e-Iqbal Housing Scheme contract to a bidder in violation of the relevant laws.

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also been questioned by NAB in the said case and has been accused of ordering cancellation of the contract, leading to a loss of Rs193 million. The chief minister is also accused of directing PLDC to assign the project to LDA resulting into the award of contracts to M/s Lahore Casa Developers (JV), causing loss of Rs715 million and ultimately the failure of the project.
