IHC issues notices to TV channel owners, anchors for violating Ramzan guidelines

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Monday issued contempt of court notices to nine persons, including owners of television channels and anchors for violation of Ramadan guidelines during their shows.

The court summoned the anchors in person for conducting lottery shows despite court orders on next date of hearing to clarify their positions.

Justice Shaukat Aziz Saddiqui of the IHC heard the case filed by former general secretary of Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) Malik Waqas regarding Ramadan transmissions.

Those who were served notices, included Shoaib Sheikh, Aamer Liaqat, Nabeel, Mir Ibrahim and Fahad Mustafa.

The court adjourned the case till Wednesday (May 23).

During the last hearing, the court had warned the TV anchors to strictly follow Ramadan guidelines, or else lifetime ban could be imposed on violators.

Nasser Janjua reaches China to attend SCO National Security Council Secretaries meeting

BEIJING, China: The National Security Adviser Lt. General (retd) Nasser Khan Janjua has reached China to attend the 13th meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) National Security Council Secretaries being held in Beijing on May 21 and 22.

Nasser Janjua will represent Pakistan in the meeting which will focus on issues including the regional security situation and priority of security cooperation among the SCO members.

On the sidelines of the SCO National Security Council Secretaries meeting, Nasser Janjua will also meet various dignitaries in Beijing.

Besides Nasser Janjua, Secretary of the National Security Council of Russia Nikolai Patrushev, Indian Deputy National Security Adviser Rajinder Khanna, Presidential Aide and Secretary of National Security Council of Kazakhstan Nurlan Ermekbaev, Secretary of the National Security Council of Tajikistan Abdurahim Kahorov, Secretary of the National Security Council of Kyrgyzstan Damir Sagynbayev, Secretary of the National Security Council of Uzbekistan Makhmudov Victor Vladimirovich, SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov, and Director of the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure Yevgeniy Sysoyev will also attend the meeting.

The participants will exchange views on the regional security situation and security cooperation priorities of the SCO.

It will be the first SCO National Security Council Secretaries’ meeting after the SCO enlargement and its primary task is to make preparations for the meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council or the Qingdao Summit to be held next month.
