The petition has been filed by a local lawyer Ilam ud Din Ghazi in SC Lahore registry making federal government, prime minister, ministries of water and power, Council of Common Interest, chairman of WAPDA and others as respondents.

The petitioner pointed out that construction of Kalabagh dam is must for the revival of the agriculture sector and other closed industries.  “There can be no development in agriculture and industries sectors without Kalabagh dam,” the petitioner argued.

He adds that due to non-construction of Kalabagh dam, loss over Rs 70 billion has been caused while with the completion of the dam, load shedding can come to an end.

He regretted that Kalabagh dam construction project stands suspended on the political basis.

He prayed that with the construction of Kalabagh dam, prosperity will come in the country, therefore, all the hurdles on the way to construction should be removed besides ensuring early construction of this dam.

He requested the court to issue orders to the government to take steps on this count.
