Four-member committee to probe Quetta’s mining accident: report

QUETTA: A four-member committee was constituted by the provincial Mines and Mineral Development Department on Tuesday to probe the Marwar and Sur-range coal mine accidents in Quetta that claimed 23 lives, reported a local media outlet.

The committee will visit the sites of the accidents under the leadership of Mining Development Director General (DG) Muhammad Imran Zarkhoon.

Chief Inspector of Mines Iftikhar Ahmed, Quetta Geo-Data Project Director Jamil Khetran, and Mining Exploration Director Abdullah Shahwani are members of the inquiry committee.

The committee will conclude its inquiry in 30 days.

On Saturday, a coal mine in Marwar collapsed after a gas explosion and caused the death of 16 miners. Seven others died after being buried under a landslide inside a mine in Sur-Rang coal field.
